Day 8

Prayer:
Psalm 25:4-5
4   Make me to know your ways, O LORD;
         teach me your paths.
5   Lead me in your truth, and teach me,
         for you are the God of my salvation;
         for you I wait all day long.

Devotion:
Hebrews 3:1-6
1Therefore, brothers and sisters, holy partners in a heavenly calling, consider that Jesus, the apostle and high priest of our confession, 2was faithful to the one who appointed him, just as Moses also “was faithful in all God’s house.“ 3Yet Jesus is worthy of more glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has more honor than the house itself. 4(For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.) 5Now Moses was faithful in all God’s house as a servant, to testify to the things that would be spoken later. 6Christ, however, was faithful over God’s house as a son, and we are his house if we hold firm the confidence and the pride that belong to hope.

Journal:
Our group decided that with the free time that we had in the morning we would travel to the market in the central part of Rotterdam. The outdoor market offered many things for the local residents and the travelers alike. Everything from clothes, to fresh produce, to bicycle parts and a seafood stand, this place had it all. We then went into the indoor market(*) which is a beautiful building with very nice permanent and seasonal stands that were placed in kiosks about the inside of the building. We gathered some last gifts and goodies and headed back to the hotel via the Metro and headed off to the Rotterdam station where we caught our train into Friesland.
On the train we passed through cities like Delft (like the blue and white pottery), Gouda (like the cheese) and Utrecht (an old medieval city). We ended up in a large town and transferred onto a Metro that took us out into the country. After a day filled with traveled we all eventually made it to the little village of Mantgum where we were welcomed into a bed and breakfast which would be our home for two nights. After a little relaxing we gathered together and went shopping for our dinner at a grocery store. We got items for dinner, snacks and drinks to keep us for our stay and returned to the B&B to make dinner. I made meatballs and the others prepared a wonderful cheese tray for an appetizer, boiled vegetables and a pasta with gravy. As dinner was served we received a visit from our host pastor, Hinne who got to know us a little bit. After sharing our stories, Hinne departed until the morning.

It was quite the change from the big cities that we have been in for the past week. Amsterdam and Rotterdam are very nice cities with great histories and stories but something is so wonderful about the peaceful countryside. With wind turbines and old windmills that dot the landscape and sheep and canals that are a part of the infrastructure it all works in a most wonderful way. As we are tucked into our awesome B&B we all knew the next was going to be a special treat.

Dive Report: White Star Quarry - July 2023

  Weekend Dive Report   White Star Quarry – Gibsonburg, Ohio 7/15-7/16, 2023 Scott’s SCUBA Service (Freeport, PA) – Advanced Open Water Class   10 students, 2 instructors, 3 divemasters   ------------------------------ The weekend started off by camping at the Toledo East/ Stony Ridge KOA Journey campground. Tent camping is not the diver’s preferred method of sleep arrangements due to the lack of space to air out dive gear at night but it was sufficient and can be done with an acceptance of some sacrifices. Thunderstorms on Friday night were a welcomed event that reminded me of the many nights spent in wilderness places as summer storms rolled overhead. Day 1 I arrived at White Star Quarry at about 7:40 on Saturday morning and met one of the divemasters, Brian, who was there early to claim some parking spots for his gear trailer and Scott’s SCUBA rental gear trailer. As students and the instructors arrived, we paid our $ 20-a-day per diver fee at the registration station and began to b

Day 7

Prayer: Psalm 119:73-76 73  Your hands have made and fashioned me;          give me understanding that I may learn your commandments. 74  Those who revere you shall see me and rejoice,          because I have hoped in your word. 75  I know, O LORD, that your judgments are right,          and that in faithfulness you have humbled me. 76  Let your steadfast love become my comfort          according to your promise to your servant. Devotion: Deuteronomy 8:6-12 6 Therefore keep the commandments of the LORD your God, by walking in his ways and by revering him. 7 For the LORD your God is bringing you into a good land, a land with flowing streams, with springs and underground waters welling up in valleys and hills, 8 a land of wheat and barley, of vines and fig trees and pomegranates, a land of olive trees and honey, 9 a land where you may eat bread without scarcity, where you will lack nothing, a land whose stones are iron and from whose hills you may mine c
